Google says paid links no longer work!

In response to this question, John Muller explains about backlink buying and its impact on site rankings. The person who raises this question claims that 80% to 90% of sites in the top ranks use monetary backlinks, which is unethical.

John Muller first confirms that Google is still using links. But he says there are other factors. What I believe is not the key determinant of backlinks, but one of the major ranking factors.

Google says paid links no longer work!

We use our ranking algorithm for links, but other factors are also important. So it’s not like backlinks are a topic that your website should only include in the search results with backlinks.

This is logical because, in the end, it is important if the search result responds to the users’ search. Backlinks can help understand what this page is about, but ultimately a web page needs to respond effectively to the response a user is looking for.

What is happening is that competitors are imitating each other. The mentality of imitating one another can partially mask the weakness of the competition, but no site can dominate the search results.

What we see is that many sites do things that are not necessary for the website and their web search. They buy a lot of backlinks and then we all ignore these backlinks.

People who are more experienced understand that paid links can help improve a site. But the problem I see is that the quality of the links available for sale is generally of poor quality.

So if a site receives benefits after buying a link, what happens is that its profits are short-lived and sometimes to no avail.
